Departure

I spent too long in duty free

Distracted by perfumery

I wasted further valuable time

Perusing the range of specialty wine

So it was that I arrived too late

At the closed departure gate

The way was barred

My day was marred

Boarding had ended

Plans were upended

After paying an exorbitant fare

For the next alternative flight

I passed a most uncomfortable night

Sleeping on a plastic chair

Stubbled chin

Next to a bin

Clothing creased

Disheveled hair

Ah, the romance

of travel by air.
